BEDI Programming and Events

At NSU, we begin the year by honoring the diverse traditions, legacies, and milestones that mark January as a time of inspiration and unity. Guided by our Core Value of Diversity and the One NSU initiatives, we celebrate the resilience of individuals and communities while embracing opportunities to foster belonging and inclusion.

January invites us to reflect on the past, honor transformative leaders, and commit to building a brighter future together. Explore the significant cultural, historical, and awareness events we recognize this month:

Key January Diversity Observances

  • New Year’s Day (January 1): A global celebration marking fresh beginnings, renewal, and hope.
  • National Mentoring Month: A campaign to celebrate mentorship and its transformative impact on personal and professional development.
  • Martin Luther King Jr. Day (January 15, 2024): A federal holiday commemorating the life and legacy of Dr. King, a champion for civil rights, social justice, and equity. Join us in events and service projects that honor his vision of unity and equality.
  • World Religion Day (January 21, 2024): An opportunity to explore and celebrate the common values shared across different faiths, fostering mutual understanding and respect.
  • International Holocaust Remembrance Day (January 27, 2024): A solemn occasion to remember the victims of the Holocaust and reaffirm our commitment to combating hate and intolerance in all its forms.

Submit Your Events

We welcome events that respect different cultures and social backgrounds, including race, gender, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, ability, religion, and age. To be eligible for selection, the events must meet the following criteria:  
1) promote belonging, 2) allow for equity, 3) showcase diversity, and 4) provide an inclusive environment.
