Service learning at Nova Southeastern University is a systematic, pedagogical approach to enhance a student’s learning experience by providing the opportunity to apply theory and research to practice within a community setting.
2021 President’s Distinguished Professor in Community Engagement
The President’s Distinguished Professor in Community Engagement recognizes superior professional engagement activities within the community. The award encourages the ongoing pursuit of community service and exemplifies NSU’s "community" core value. Through this award, Nova Southeastern University proclaims its pride in the accomplishments and personal dedication of its faculty activities in the community. This award is conferred upon a faculty member who demonstrates significant contributions to the community and serves as a role model for ongoing community engagement for NSU students.
The awardee will be provided:
• Faculty Club Membership for one year
• An honorarium of $500.00
• A personalized commemorative plaque
• Recognition at the University level and at 2021 EmployeeFest
• Authorization to use the title (academic year) President’s Distinguished Professor in Community Engagement
Selection Information:
Candidates must be full-time faculty who meet selection criteria determined by the Office of Institutional and Community Engagement in collaboration with the Provost’s Office and must include demonstration of initiative, creativity and engagement within the community.
Community outreach and engagement activities must be on behalf of Nova Southeastern University and may be in the areas of community based research, community based clinical activities, community service, community events with students, and/or service learning.

Nominations may be made by colleagues, deans, administrators, staff or a faculty member may self-nominate. One (1) electronic copy of the application packet to npascucci@nova.edu, the application packet must include:
A university-wide committee of faculty peers will make their recommendation to the President for the awardee. The final decision will be made by the President. The term of the award is for one year.

The Office of Institutional and Community Engagement must receive all supporting documentation on or before December 31, 2020.

These three awards are conferred upon one faculty member, one administrator, and one staff member who each demonstrate significant contributions to the community, while exemplifying all eight of NSU’s core values, and who serve as a role model for ongoing community engagement for NSU students.
Award:
Nominations for the President’s Excellence in Community Service Engagement may come from any NSU constituent and may include self-nominations. Three university-wide awards will be recommended to the President by a selection committee comprised of peers at NSU in cooperation with the Office of Institutional and Community Engagement. The term of this award is for one year.

Eligibility Criteria:
Community outreach and engagement activities must be on behalf of Nova Southeastern University and may be in the areas of community-based research, community clinical activities, community service, community events with students, and/or in service learning.
Faculty: Candidates must be full-time faculty who meet selection criteria determined by the Office of Institutional and Community Engagement in collaboration with the Provost’s Office. Criteria include demonstration of initiative, creativity, and engagement within the community.
Staff: A nominee must be a full-time staff member at NSU. He/she must provide outstanding evidence of community service or outreach to the community-at-large as well as outstanding performance of his/her job duties, as demonstrated by a commitment to all eight core values.
Administrator: A nominee must be a full-time administrator or an administrative faculty with more than 51% time devoted to administrative duties. He/she must have a masters or doctoral degree and provide outstanding evidence of community service or outreach to the community-at-large as well as outstanding commitment to NSU’s eight core values.

Award Decision:
The award decision recommendations will be made by committees comprised of NSU peers in cooperation with the Office of Institutional and Community Engagement.
The final decision will be made by Nova Southeastern University’s President on or before January 18, 2021.
