You Can CREATE a Difference

Nova Southeastern University's Coalition for Research and Education Against Trafficking and Exploitation (CREATE) is harnessing the university’s research and clinical resources to provide wraparound services that will help survivors heal and move beyond their traumatic experiences to achieve a self-sustainable life.

With your support, we can reach our goals more quickly. As the only coalition of its kind in the State of Florida, NSU CREATE can:

  • raise awareness of human trafficking at the local, national and global level
  • provide support and services to victims and survivors of human trafficking

Donations of in-kind items such as new clothing or toiletries are in high demand. If you are interested in donating such goods, please email us at create@nova.edu.

Please make your check or money order payable to NSU CREATE and mail it, along with a note about how you would like your gift to be directed to:

Yes. Gifts of stocks and bonds are welcomed by NSU, however, these gifts require special planning and consultation with your professional financial advisor and NSU Advancement staff. If you decide to make a gift of stock, please contact Denise Goldson Rau at 954-262-2163 or dgoldsonrau@nova.edu so transfer instructions can be provided.

ADDED BENEFITS:

Through gifts of appreciated securities:

  • You may be able to avoid capital gains tax. Any gain is taxable if you sell stock or mutual fund shares yourself, but not if you transfer ownership to the University.
  • Your charitable deduction for federal income tax purposes is based on the full, fair market value of the shares on the date the gift is made.
  • You receive credit from the University for the full, fair market value of the shares, but the cost to you is only your original purchase price.

Leaving a legacy for future efforts to help survivors is a meaningful way to give that can provide tax benefits and even income. Legacy gifts may come from a simple bequest through a will, a beneficiary of a trust, a beneficiary of a charitable gift annuity, or as a beneficiary of a life insurance policy or retirement account.

For more information on how to make a legacy gift to NSU, contact Shari Meehan (954-262-1510 or smeehan@nova.edu) or Jenny Powers (954-262-2168 or jennifer.powers@nova.edu).

BONUS BENEFIT: Membership in NSU's 1964 Society. Named in honor of the university's founding year, NSU's 1964 Society connects individuals with the university and establishes a meaning and lasting relationship with donors and their families. And individuals who make a legacy gift commitment prior to December 31, 2016 will become founding members of NSU's 1964 Society.

Members also receive:

  • NSU's bi-annual Horizon Magazine (which recently featured CREATE)
  • NSU's monthly Legacy Giving eNewsletter
  • Commemorative 1964 Society Pin
  • Invitation to the annual 1964 Society luncheon
  • Invitation to special events

Please join us in our mission to educate our communities on human trafficking and to help the victims.

We appreciate any and all donations. Thank you for your thoughtful generosity.
