George joined the Peace Corps immediately following his graduation from UNC. He and his wife, Anne, did community development work in Colon, Panama. George attended law school in Boston and worked in legal services including civil rights work at the Harvard Center for Law and Education.

George served as an International Legal Center Overseas Fellow at the Catholic University School of Law in Santiago, Chile.

George practiced law for the past 45 years in Florida where his practice focuses on environmental and land use law and government affairs. George has been active in politics including service as a Broward County Commissioner, Chair of the Broward Democratic Party and Treasurer of the Florida Democratic Party.

George was among the founders of the Global Carolina Initiative over 20 years ago and has continued as an active supporter.

George has focused significant volunteer time on post-secondary education including service as Chair of the Florida Board of Community Colleges, Chair of the Florida Atlantic University Foundation Board, Board member of the Florida College System Foundation, Trustee of Nova Southeastern University, and Chair of the Florida Education Facilities Study Committee.

George is also a pioneer of the wetlands mitigation banking industry in the U.S. through The Wetlandsbank Company, LLC.

George and Anne live in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and Waynesville, North Carolina.
