NSU’s Office of Technology Transfer (OTT) functions under the umbrella of the Division Research and Economic Development (DoR) that supports NSU’s research infrastructure. Besides the Office of Technology Transfer, this overarching DoR unit also oversees the functioning of the Office of Sponsored Programs, Office of Clinical Research, and the Grant Writing Laboratory.
The purpose of our OTT is the translation of scientific research from academic laboratories to society. The OTT at NSU strives to commercialize the university’s innovations to the outside world so that it can maximize positive social impact and strengthen the economy. There are many commercialization options and the OTT will help inventors navigate their way through the murky waters of technology marketing in order to achieve results that benefit the inventor, the investor, and the university.
Our scope of activities includes intellectual property (IP) protection and management, ensuring federal compliance, assistance with forms and contracts, evaluating and marketing inventions, commercializing of innovations, and managing revenue generated from these commercialization activities. This office also facilitates formation of university spinoffs, fosters collaboration with strategic corporate partners, promotes education, and creates economic value to benefit society.
We strive to be a fully integrated Technology Transfer Office structured to manage university intellectual property, fulfill the University’s federal obligations regarding transferring university generated technologies to the public, and interact with industry to commercialize university intellectual property while increasing income and supporting the university’s mission.
