Tampa Bay cardiologist, entrepreneur, community leader and philanthropist Dr. Kiran C. Patel (Florida Trend’s 2018 Floridian of the Year) and his wife, pediatrician Dr. Pallavi Patel, made philanthropic gifts totaling a record $80 million to help NSU advance health care in Florida and internationally. In honor of their tremendous commitment, three colleges within NSU’s Health Professions Division now bear the Patel name:
Inside 36 hours, NSU President Dr. George Hanbury and Dr. Kiran C. Patel developed and executed a plan to provide immediate aid to NSU students, faculty and staff members reeling from the devastating effects of Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico.
Items provided via the transport of Dr. Patel’s plane included: hundreds of cases of water, batteries, tarps, flashlights, power packs, toiletries, t-shirts, crackers, canned goods, and paper towels.
“Seeing what is happening in Puerto Rico, and knowing that NSU has a regional campus on the island, I knew I had to do something to help,” said Dr. Kiran C. Patel. “I’m part of the NSU family and they are hurting; as a physician, a husband, a father – as a person – how could I not help?”
