The DSST program is a nationally-recognized testing program that gives students the opportunity to receive college credit for learning acquired outside of the traditional college classroom. Students who pass DSST exams can earn college credits for what they have learned through work experiences and individual study. Additionally, students may continue their studies at an advanced level instead of repeating familiar material.

There are no prerequisites required to take DSST exams. However, because requirements differ from college to college, please check with the Office of Admissions or your academic adviser before taking any tests. NSU set its own DSST policy regarding scores, credits awarded, and applicable courses. Students must contact their academic advisor before attempting DSST exams. All DSST exams are two hours long. There is a 30 day wait period in between attempts to retake the exam.

• Books recommended as useful for review

Exam Fees

$100 per exam payable to DSST on test day by credit card only.

$25 per test administration fee ($15 for NSU students) - payable through our UPAY system

Test Day

A valid photo ID is required (Driver's license or Passport) to take the exam.

DSST Test Information

Beginning October 1, 2006, DSST exams will be administered as an IBT (Internet-Based Test) on a computer. Each exam is two hours long and made up primarily of multiple-choice questions. Score reports are available immediately and are printed for the student upon completion of the exam.

Study Guide

Peterson's Master the DSST Exams, Volume II is now available online for free. This study guide provides diagnostic tests, subject-matter reviews, and post-tests for twelve DSST exams.

Testing Accommodations

Prometric makes every effort to provide reasonable testing accommodations that enable all test takers to take examinations on a level playing field. For DSST exams, testing locations that Prometric partners with to deliver DSST exams, such as colleges and universities, play an active and significant role in determining whether and how requests for testing accommodations for students with special requirements are approved. Prometric may also be required to work in conjunction with your testing location to provide approved accommodations. If you have a disability as prescribed by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and require special testing services or arrangements, please submit your request as far in advance of your test date as possible so that the necessary accommodations can be made.
