Admissions Process for Veterans
Understanding Admissions Criteria
If you are applying as an undergraduate or graduate student, it is important to familiarize yourself with our admissions criteria. We welcome applicants from diverse backgrounds and recognize the value of military experience. Here's what you need to know:
- Weighted High School GPA: 3.0 or higher
- Submission of High School/Prior-Learning/Military Transcripts (JST, CCAF)
- Recommended Optional Items:
- Volunteer experience
- Letter of recommendation from a superior
- Personal essay explaining why you want to attend NSU
- Resume

- Admission criteria varies by program; consult with the program coordinator for specific requirements
- Submission of Transcripts (including military transcripts), GRE/GMAT scores (if applicable), and other program-specific materials

- At least 24 College Credits (If less than 24 credits, submit high school transcript and SAT/ACT scores)

Step 1: Apply to NSU.
Once you've reviewed the admissions criteria and selected your program, it's time to apply to NSU:
- Select your degree program
- Create an account and start your application
- Submit all transcripts, military (JST, CCAF)/prior learning, electronically or by mail:
Step 2. Apply for VA Educational Benefits Online.
If you plan to use VA Educational Benefits, follow these steps to start your application process:
- Visit the VA Website and Complete the Application:
- Go to the VA Education Benefits webpage.
- Under "How do I apply?" click on "Find your education benefits form."
- Follow the instructions provided on the website to start your application. (School Code: 001509)
- Processing Time:
- For undergraduates, VA processing takes 4-8 weeks; for graduates, it's typically 6-8 weeks.
- Receive a Certificate of Eligibility (CoE):
- You'll receive a CoE by mail once approved.
- Submit CoE to NSU:
- Once received, deliver your CoE to the VA Certifying Official on the main campus in the Horvitz Administration Building. If visiting isn’t possible, fax it to 954-262-3966 or email vabenefits@nova.edu.
Step 3. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
Apply for federal financial aid by filling out the FAFSA using NSU's school code (001509). For assistance, contact the Financial Aid Office.
